LUBBOCK, Texas (November 23, 2013) – Seven Lady Chaparrals notched double-figures and Nicole Hampton scored 21 points in the first half to complete a double-double and lead Lubbock Christian University to a 95-66 win over Newman University in a Heartland Conference tilt inside Rip Griffin Center Saturday afternoon.

The Lady Chaps actually got off to a rugged start, going 1-of-6 from the field to open the game. Newman led 9-4 just three minutes into the game before the LCU offense warmed up. The teams traded leads seven times until LCU went on a 16-0 run late in the first half for a 49-26 lead with 4:15 remaining. Nicole Hampton was 8-of-9 from the field in the first half and her reverse lay up at the horn gave herself a 21-point half and the Lady Chaps a 56-33 halftime lead. Eighteen of the first half scoring came from the line, as LCU knocked down 18 out of 19 free-throw attempts in the half.

Alexandra Ciabattoni tried to get Newman back into the game in the second half by scoring four of the team's first five field goals in the opening six minutes of the half, but the Jets leading scorer was held without a point for the remainder of the game. LCU went on a 15-4 run during the time they held Ciabattoni to her final bucket and built the lead to 76-43 with 13:24 remaining for their largest lead. Senior Kayci Boyles, who finished matching a career high with three blocks, tallied 10 points in the second half for LCU.

Emily Pool, who was celebrating a birthday, matched an LCU single-game Rip Griffin Center record going 10-for-10 from the free throw line. The feat had only been done inside the building once before and it was completed by Tabitha Qubty-Sellers (10-for-10 on Jan. 18, 2001 vs. Oklahoma Christian). LCU was 22-of-23 from the line in the game until closing out the game missing four of their final five attempts for a 23-of-28 (82.1%) final mark.

Hampton completed her first double-double of the season and the 26th of her career with 23 points and 11 rebounds. She also had a game-high five assists. Hampton was joined by Pool (14 points), Boyles (13), Kelsey Hoppel (11 points), Blair Taylor (10 points), Haley Fowler (10 points) and Haley Burton (10 points) in double figures for LCU. Newman was led by Ciabattoni's 17 points 15 points from Shakeira Copeland.

The contest was the first ever meeting between the two programs and it was LCU's first ever game against a Kansas based program. The Lady Chaps open conference play 2-0 and improve to 4-1 overall, while the Jets fall to 2-3 overall and 1-1 in conference. LCU will head for warmer weather over the next two games, as they head to Hawai'i to participate in the Oahu Classic. Play in Honolulu begins Thanksgiving Day at 7 p.m. (Central) against BYU-Hawai'i.
