LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -

Funeral services for a former Lubbock student killed in Virginia have been set.

Services for 19-year-old Joshua Hathaway will be held at 2 p.m. at Southcrest Baptist Church on Tuesday, Nov. 26.

Burial will follow at Peaceful Gardens Memorial Park near Lubbock Cooper High School.

Hathaway died last week after being shot by security officer at an off campus women's dorm near Liberty University.

According to an arrest warrant released to our Raycom affiliate WWBT in Virginia, Joshua Hathaway came to the dorm known as Residential Annex II shortly before 4 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 19, looking for help. He told the security officer he had been robbed and his car was stolen.

The search warrant says as the officer began to help Hathaway, he took out a hammer and beat the security guard. That's when the officer fired two shots, one killing Hathaway.

Hathaway graduated as the salutatorian at Southcrest Christian School on May 23, 2013. His high school career included basketball, distinguished band member, many service projects and earning distinction as an excellent student with a GPA of 4.57. He was attending Liberty University with an intent to study business.
