The FDA is investigating whether some morning after pills need a label change, and it all involves how much a woman weighs.
Apparently, Norvelo, the maker of the emergency pill widely used in Europe, has known for some time that it does not work well in women who weigh more than 175 pounds.
Now, Norvelo is adjusting that weight limit, saying it appears to not work as well in women over 165 pounds.
Norvelo has the same active ingredient as plan "b" one-step, the morning after pill which has been approved in the U.S.
So, the FDA is investigating whether the US version of the pill should carry the same weight restrictions.
