The busiest travel day of the year has not been entirely smooth but it's been better than expected.
A winter storm hitting the northeast had the potential to create a lot of problems. Airlines delayed several flights across the country on Wednesday but local travelers fared better.
Across the board, flights in and out of the Lubbock Preston Smith International Airport were on time on Wednesday. However, the majority of flights are heading to Dallas or Houston, so travelers could see delays on their connecting flights.
Leon Cowan traveled from North Carolina and is glad he dodged the storm.
"I am, yes I am. Glad to be back in Texas. We're originally from here. My sons here, we're gonna celebrate Thanksgiving tomorrow it's gonna be great," Cowan said.
About 43 million Americans are expected to travel today, 3 million of them will be taking flights.
Airports are expected to be busy again this weekend as all the holiday travelers head home.
"Hopefully it's gone, hopefully we miss all of it," Cowan said.
