Volunteers honor fallen service members during holidays

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -

Volunteers laid thousands of wreaths at a Texas veterans cemetery to honor fallen service members.

More than 4,000 wreaths were placed yesterday at the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery.

Jason Garcia, one of the volunteers, said he believes it's important to honor veterans and their families during the holidays.

"With the holidays, we get so caught up with family," he said, "with putting trees up, putting lights up - and we want to make sure we remember them as well."

It was the eighth annual wreath-laying ceremony.

The wreaths will decorate the gravesites through the holidays and will be retrieved on the first Sunday in January.
