MORTON, TX (KCBD) -

A suspect has been taken into custody in connection with the Sunday morning fire at the First United Methodist Church in Morton.

The Cochran County Sheriff's office has arrested Aaron Angel Trinidad. He is charged with arson/intended damage to a habitat or place of worship and burglary of a building.

Officials responded to the church just a little after 3 a.m. Sunday. It took more than 12 hours to control the blaze.

The building was a total loss.

Investigators are also seeing if Trinidad can be connected to last month's fire at the Honesto Ballroom.

The cause of that fire has still not been determined.

The sheriff says he doesn't know if the fires are connected, but the state fire marshal's office is investigating the possibility.
