With the help from Congressman Randy Neugebauer, West Texas farmers are now one step closer to receiving farm aid.
Last year, West Texas farmers lost 1.3 million acres of crops to a drought, but crop insurance did not cover all those losses. That's why Congressman Neugebauer sponsored a $2.9 million disaster relief amendment for West Texas farmers and ranchers. The amendment was included in the final bill that passed in the House Saturday.
If it's approved by the Senate, the bill would provide relief for crops damaged in 2003 and 2004. Congressman Charlie Stenholm wanted to give farmers emergency relief, but his amendment failed to pass the House.
