Dawson wins School Spirit Showdown

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -

Twelve weeks ago, the School Spirit Showdown started with 80 area schools competing for votes at kcbd.com.

Tuesday night, Dawson beat out 79 other schools to win the $3,000 Grand Prize.

Located in Welch, Texas, the school received 33 percent of the vote at kcbd.com during finals voting to beat out Trinity Christian by 2,400 votes.

Trinity finished 2nd with 28 percent of the vote. SouthCrest Christian finished third with 26 percent and Valley, who won the contest in 2006 finished 4th with 13%.

Pete Christy will head out to Welch in the coming weeks to present the school with the $3,000 Grand prize and Championship Trophy.

In 9 years of hosting these yearly contests to generate pride and enthusiasm in our area towns, over 2.5 million votes have been recorded at kcbd.com and $30,500 has been given out to area schools.

The School Spirit Showdown was sponsored by Sonic and South Plains College.

Next year, it's back to the Pep Rally Playoffs. Whiteface win the $3,000 Grand Prize the last time in 2009.

Pete wants to thank all of our area schools for participating and showcasing their spirit and excitement.
