Sports injuries are becoming more and more common in kids today, as schools and families become more focused on competitive sports.
But, a Texas Tech physician recommends a good, cheap Christmas gift that could actually help kids prevent injuries later…chalk.
Dr. Matt Furgeson says hopscotch is a great training tool for sports that require jumping and turning.
"Kids are just training for that specific sport, and not doing cross-training, which hop-scotch might be considered. You're strengthening other muscles, not just strengthening muscles for that specific sport that you're playing; you're strengthening muscles throughout your entire body."
A jump rope is another good, cheap gift that could help give your child better strength, balance and landing skills, and balance when jumping.
