Here is an update on the country's first full face transplants.
New medical imaging show great success in all three patients who had the procedure 2 years ago at Brigham and Women's Hospital.
Doctors there say new blood vessel networks have formed, connecting the transplanted skin to the patient's own facial tissue.
Researchers hope what they learn from this will help reduce the operating time in the future, since a face transplant can take up to 30 hours.
