Man hit by car in Brookland released from hospital, suspect arrested

BROOKLAND, AR (KAIT) - A man hit by a car over the weekend in Brookland has been released from the hospital and a suspect is in jail.

The crash happened around 7 p.m.  Saturday near the Kum and Go on Highway 49B.

According to Brookland Police Officer Eric Stephens a man was stuck in a ditch on the highway when another man came to his aid. A third car then struck the vehicle helping the first driver. After the collision, the third car spun and hit the man stuck in the ditch.

The driver of the third car fled the scene, but was arrested at his home around 11 p.m. that night, Stephens said. His name has not been released.

The man who was hit went to the hospital and was later released with non-life threatening injuries.

The suspect has a probable cause hearing later this week. He is in the Craighead County Jail and his bond was set at $100,000.
