Baby safe after abduction in Pittsburgh

A baby girl is safe after being abducted near Pittsburgh Saturday night by her mother's ex-boyfriend.

Police say the 21-year-old suspect kidnapped the eight-month-old girl from a convenience store around 11 p.m.

He led police on a chase that ended after crashing through several perimeter gates at Pittsburgh International Airport. Police say the suspect refused to surrender.

Lt. Anrew Schurman with the Allegheny County Police said the suspect was shot and killed by a state trooper because of his next action.

"At this point the actor threatened the child's life, held a knife to the child's neck," Schurman said, "threatened to kill the child, and was taunting the officer saying, 'Shoot me, shoot me', and holding the child up as a human shield."

The 21-year-old suspect was identified as Jared Brown-Garnham.

An amber alert was issued following the abduction, which led to the chase. Eight-month-old Bailey Fergurson was examined at a hospital for minor bumps and bruises.
