JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - One Region 8 church spent all Monday cleaning up and salvaging items after a busted pipe flooded their entire building. The weekend's slick and dangerous roads kept Big T's Apostolic Church in Corning from having service on Sunday, so when Pastor Bryan Malone walked in Monday morning, his church was filled with water.
"As soon as I opened the door I could hear water running," Malone said. "As soon as I stepped into the sanctuary it was all the way up to the door."
A pipe that busted caused the roof in his office to collapse. Pastor Malone said they're not certain how it happened, but he believes it had something to do with the cold temperatures.
"I don't know if it had frozen and burst but it went through our ceiling over to our fellowship hall," Malone said. "It's the only line that's in the ceiling."
Malone said insurance won't help with the damage.
"They won't pay because it was a water line that burst," Malone said.
However, the effort to salvage what they could and fix what was broken has already been in the works. Despite the dangerous roads, several members showed up to help do what they could.
"I knew they would be here and gradually one by one they made it," Malone said. "I just can't tell them how much I appreciate them."
This isn't the first time Big T's Apostolic Church has faced devastation. Their church burned down in 2003. They finalized completions to their new building just a few weeks ago.
