First District police-involved shooting under investigation

After a search warrant was executed by Cleveland Police, no weapon was found in the suspects vehicle from a police-involved shooting from Tuesday evening.

Initial reports state First District Cleveland police officers were investigating a burglary when  29-year-old Xavier Hampstead pulled a gun on officers, from his black SUV, and Officer Robert Miles shot him. 

The shots struck Hampstead in the neck and chest area.  After he was shot, he fled the scene.

Police chased Hampstead's vehicle to a nearby gas station, off W. 104th St. and Jasper. 

Hampstead was transported to MetroHealth for his injuries. He is currently in stable condition. 

No officers were injured during the incident.

The officer involved, has been placed on leave.

The Cleveland Division of Police Use of Deadly Force Investigation Team will continue to investigate the incident.
