Police: Smoke shop robberies may be connected

Posted: Updated:
LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -

Five local smoke shops have been plagued with robberies since November, an outstanding number for the area.

Of the five robberies, four were on weekends, three of them on a Sunday.

Suspects primarily took money, though product was also taken. Only one arrest has been made in any of these five robberies.

Surveillance video shows that some robberies involved a team of two people, and some with suspects working alone.

Sgt. Lewis with the Lubbock Police Department says that authorities have reason to believe that some of the robberies may be connected.

Lewis said, "Different characteristics about the robberies themselves, about the people, just different things about the entire situation, lead us to believe that some of them may be connected."

Five robberies that have targeted smoke shops seems like a high number, but Lewis says that during this time of year, the numbers increase.

"It seems like around the holidays we see this sort of thing," said Lewis. "Robberies, burglary increases and these types of crimes."

The robberies include:

December 11th- One Stop Smoke Shop at Clovis Road and Temple Street, armed robbery, suspect at large.

December 8th- Tobacco Road at 2805 Avenue Q, suspect at large.

November 3rd- Tobacco Road on 2908 Parkway Drive, suspect at large.

November 3rd- Smokin J's at 4416 50th street, armed robbery and assault, suspect at large.

November 2nd- Tobacco Express at 3816 34th street, armed robbery and sexual assault, suspect arrested.
