The Big 12 Conference announced their 2013 Football Awards Wednesday, and several Red Raiders were on the list.

Freshman Walk On Quarterback Baker Mayfield was named the Freshman Offensive Player of the Year, becoming the first Red Raider to earn the award since Michael Crabtree in 2007. Mayfield completed 218 passes for 2,315 yards and 12 Touchdowns while only starting 7 of Tech's 12 regular season games. This after rumors surfaced via Twitter that Mayfield will look to transfer schools.

After being named Second Team All-Big 12 a year ago, Junior TE Jace Amaro also headlined the list for Texas Tech as one of only two players to be unanimous First Team All-Big 12 Selections (OU Offensive Lineman Gabe Ikard). Amaro tallied 98 receptions, which is almost twice as many as the second best Tight End in the country statistically (Eric Ebron, 55), for 1240 yards and 7 Touchdowns.

The accolades didn't stop there for Amaro, he was also named to USA Today's First Team All American list as well as the College Football Performance Awards National Tight End of the Year. He will receive a 22-inch crystal tower trophy with an 8-inch football on top. The award may serve as a consolation prize to make up for Amaro not being named a finalist for the Mackey Award, presented to the best Tight End in the country. Many question the Awards credibility after leaving Amaro off the Finalist List.

Tech also had two players make the All-Big 12 Second Team. Senior Defensive Lineman Kerry Hyder made the team for the second consecutive year as the leader of the Red Raider Defense. Sophomore Offensive Lineman Le'Raven Clark also made the Second Team as the anchor of the group up front.

The Red Raiders have 9 players on the Honorable Mention team: Ryan Bustin (PK), Ryan Erxleben (P), Jakeem Grant (WR), Bradley Marquez (WR), Baker Mayfield (QB), Tre' Porter (DB), Pete Robertson (LB), Will Smith (LB) and Eric Ward (WR).

The team will aim to bring home another trophy when they take on #14 Arizona State in the National University Holiday Bowl on December 30th in San Diego, CA.
