There is good news for allergy sufferers, soon, you may be able to ditch your shots, and just take a pill every day instead.
Today, a panel of experts recommended approval to an FDA advisory committee that would allow allergy sufferers to get relief from a daily pill that dissolves under the tongue, specifically to treat grass and pollen allergies.
But some doctors are concerned about the luxury of patients treating themselves at home, since people who take shots have allergies that are more severe, and are more likely to run the risk of allergic reactions.
The two drugs discussed by the panel are a tablet called oralair, and a similar medication called grastek.
The FDA is not required to follow the panel's advice, but it normally does.
We'll keep you posted as this develops.
