No significant damage from O.L. Slaton auditorium fire

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -

Lubbock Fire Rescue put out a fire in the auditorium of O.L. Slaton Jr. High on Thursday evening.

LISD representative Nancy Sharp said authorities believe the fire could have started from props on the stage for a play.

"They're trying to figure out the nature… there's a perception that it was related to some props and so forth that were being constructed for a school play." Sharp said.

The fire was contained to the stage, so there was no significant damage.

Students were evacuated from the building to a next door parking lot.

"It was limited to the stage area at the O.L. Slaton Middle School auditorium. Students were cleared from the school, it was after school but there was preparations being done for some after school extracurricular events." Sharp said.

The Fire Marshal's investigation is in progress.

School will follow a normal schedule on Friday, December 13.
