GARZA COUNTY, TX (KCBD) -

One man was killed and another taken to a Lubbock hospital after two tractor trailers collided on US 84, approximately seven miles east of Post in Garza County, at 4:14 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 12.

Alexander Gerald Wilkerson, 28, of Muleshoe was operating a truck trailer loaded with cattle and heading northbound on US 84.

Police say Wilkerson failed to negotiate the curve, lost control of his truck, and crossed the center median into southbound traffic.

Ronald Gene Turner, 50, of Lubbbock was operating a truck tractor-semi trailer heading southbound on US 84 when Wilkerson's truck trailer collided with his semi trailer head on.

Police say both trucks caught fire and were a complete loss.

Wilkerson was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash while Turner was transported by ambulance to Covenant where he is currently in stable condition.

Police say approximately 30 head of cattle were killed in the crash.

US 84 was blocked by debris and cattle until the road could be cleared.
