Academy surprises 30 Brown Elementary School students with new bicycles

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -

Academy Sports and Outdoors surprised 30 Brown Elementary School students with an early Christmas gift on Friday, Dec. 13, as part of their annual holiday donation program.

The program provided 15 boys and 15 girls with a new bicycle and helmet.

The purpose of the donation program is to allow local schools with a way to reward children during the holidays for good attendance, academic performance, good behavior and/or need.

Tori Apel, Lubbock Academy Sports and Outdoors Operations Manager, said she has been a part of the program for four years and looks forward to the event each year.

"These kids get so excited, they work so hard throughout the first part of the year, so it's really nice to give them something to look forward to right before Christmas," said Apel.

Academy says that the program will benefit over 3,300 boys and girls through 110 events through their stores in 13 states.
