The holidays are filled with fancy food and drinks. You might be surprised how many people eat up, drink up, and then end up driving to the emergency room after a period of over-indulgence.
Dr. Steven Brooks, a trauma surgeon, says he treats a lot of patients who wind up feeling miserable after every meal. He says often, the problem is traced to the gall bladder, which is on the right side of your stomach.
"There's a familiar story of 'hey, I just ate this awesome Christmas meal, causing them aggravation and pain," says Dr. Brooks.
He also says some people can live with gall stones for a very long time, but it becomes infected. That's when it becomes an emergency. He says the best way to protect against that is to enjoy your holiday favorites, but enjoy everything in moderation.
