Family and friends are mourning the loss of a fallen sheriff's deputy on Thursday night.

Sergeant Adam Sowders was shot while serving a warrant in Burleson County Thursday morning. Investigators say a number of officers entered a home when the people inside started shooting. A suspect is currently in custody. Authorities have not released why they were searching the home.

Sheriff Dale Stroud from Burleson County said he shares in the grief of the tragedy. "We enter into grief with the family," Stroud said. "His family, in Somerville, who by the way is also our extended family, and law enforcement throughout the Brazos Valley, and the state of Texas, and particularly Burleson County - we share their grief."

Sowders served with the Sheriff's Department since 2006. He also served as a volunteer firefighter.
