Man shot by police, then arrested

Posted: Updated:

A Welsh man shot by police last month was arrested Friday after a Louisiana State Police investigation.

Welsh Police say 35-year-old Dexter Prudhomme, Jr. reached for a gun during a traffic stop on November 18th.

Officers say they gave loud verbal warnings to Prudhomme not to touch the gun and exit the vehicle.

They say Prudhomme ignored their orders, grabbed the gun, and was shot twice.

State Police investigated the incident, and on Friday arrested Prudhomme for illegal carrying of weapons, possession of marijuana, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and resisting an officer with violent force.

Prudhomme was booked into the Jefferson Davis Parish Jail without bond.
