Driver flees scene in Longview after striking, killing pedestrian

LONGVIEW, TX (KLTV) -

A woman was struck and killed by a car on South Green Street in Longview early Saturday morning, according to the Longview Police Department.

On December 21, 2013 at 12:14 a.m., Longview Police were dispatched to a hit and run accident with Injuries in the 1600 Block of South Green Street. When police arrived they located a white female who had been struck by a vehicle.

According to a witness, the female was walking North bound in the inside lane of South Green Street when she was struck by the suspect's vehicle. After striking the victim, identified as 33-year-old Tabitha Lynn Herriage Rodriguez of Longview, the driver of the vehicle continued to traveling north bound and failed to stop and help the victim.

The victim was transported to Good Shepherd Medical Center where she died from her injuries. The suspect's vehicle is described as a maroon or red small truck. If anyone has information on this crime they are asked to contact Longview Police Department at 903-237-1199.     Officials with the United States Air Force say 19 private drinking water wells and one public water well are contaminated with perflourinated compounds. In a news release, officials say the Air Force is providing bottled water to affected well owners and has been working with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ), the EPA and affected communities to protect human health and drinking water supplies.
