DPS increasing DWI enforcement for New Year's Eve celebrations

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -

The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) will be increasing DWI patrols in preparation for New Year's Eve celebrations.

As many people across the South Plains head out to celebrate, DPS wants to remind everyone to use caution and safety while driving.

Corporal John Gonzales said, "Our emphasis will be on the DWI. Drinking and driving is going to be the big issue. We are encouraging people if they are drinking and driving to be responsible and discouraging that they drink and drive."

Gonzales also wants to remind those hosting New Year's Eve parties tonight that it is ok to take up the keys of someone who you think is too drunk to drive and call them a taxi instead.
