Lubbock Police Say Man Stabs Himself To Avoid Arrest

A bizarre confrontation with police ended with a Lubbock man stabbed in the abdomen.

The incident began around four o'clock Friday morning in the 1300 Block of 32nd Street. Police responded to a domestic disturbance call, and found the suspect hiding in a backyard shed. Officers ordered the man out of the shed at gunpoint, but he ran back into the home, grabbed a steak knife, and ran down the street.

Police cornered him a second time, and that's when he stabbed himself. As of Friday evening he remains in serious condition at University Medical Center, charges are pending.
