Pay It Forward began in West Lubbock this week. We set up with our Pay it Forward sign searching for someone who had a giving heart to help others.
It only took a minute or two for our designated Pay It Forward giver to show up. Several people passed by before Elva Guerra pulled into the parking lot.
Elva had never seen Pay It Forward before. She was intrigued by the sign and after explaining how it works, she was eager to participate.
Elva chose Rita Morin as this week's recipient of Pay It Forward. Elva explained that Rita was a soul sister - a spiritual mentor in her life and in her church congregation.
Elva said Rita was going through some health issues and had children to take care of, so Elva felt that Rita could really use the extra money.
With that, we drove to Rita's house where we completely surprised her. When we arrived, Rita was caught completely off guard. She was very grateful and accepted $300.
Rita gave Elva a big hug and told us that she planned to use the money to shop for winter clothes for her kids.
Rita said that Elva has a very special heart and that you don't find many friends like her anymore.
Be looking for our Pay It Forward sign soon! You may become our next resident of the South Plains making a difference in another person's life.
