Markus Monroe scored a season-high 31 points – including several highlight reel dunks – to lead the Wayland Baptist Pioneers to an 81-68 win over Oklahoma Baptist in Sooner Athletic Conference play on Thursday night in Hutcherson Center.

The Pioneers (11-2, 2-1) led at halftime, 33-23, and never let the Bison (7-7, 1-3) back in the game in the second half.

Wayland made just 2-of-20 shots from three-point range, but it didn't really matter. The Pioneers shot 71 percent (29-of-41) from inside the arc.

Barry Johnson added 13 and Royal Crouch 11 for the Pioneers, who outrebounded the Bison, 45-33, paced by point guard Travis Payton's 11 boards. Payton also ended with eight assists, five points and three steals.

OBU was led by Aaron Abram's 26 points and 13 rebounds. Morris Woods added 17 points.

Wayland returns to action at 3 p.m. Saturday against No. 18 Mid-America Christian (8-3, 4-1), which edged OBU, 69-64, in its last game Jan. 7.
