LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -

Clarence Hooker has been found guilty of the 2004 murder of 78-year-old Mary Elizabeth Davis.

Prosecutors urged the jury to focus on one significant proof of evidence, Hooker's DNA on the knife used to kill Davis.

Davis, who was known in her neighborhood as the Candy Lady, was found stabbed to death inside her east Lubbock home.

Testimony began Jan. 14 but the trial was postponed until Jan. 27 due to a witness catching the flu.

Officers and EMTs who were on the scene testified about the day Davis's body was found.

One woman said Davis was found with her feet propped up in a chair and that Davis had been dead for quite some time.

Police say the butcher knife used to kill Davis was found next to her body. A bloody mop was also found in a bathroom sink.

In 2011, police announced that newly tested DNA evidence had linked hooker to the crime.
