LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -

Lubbock City Attorney Sam Medina has asked the city council to place him on administrative leave in response to sexual assault allegations made by his "soon to be ex-daughter in law."

Medina characterized the allegations as "desperate, malicious, and false" but has already placed himself on voluntary leave while they are addressed.

Medina's wife and two sons stood by his side while he addressed the media on Monday afternoon.

Medina's attorney says the accuser is currently involved in a custody dispute with Sam Medina's son, Erik.

We also spoke with the accuser's attorney, who says nothing official has been filed at this time.

Mayor Glen Robertson says Medina's request will not be official until City Council can vote on it in a special meeting scheduled for Thursday, Jan. 16 at 3 p.m.

Mitch Sadderwhite is the interim city attorney.

Medina was named city attorney in 2009. He served as a district judge in Lubbock County for 15 years.
