Service Guide: MLK Day of Service events

(WMC-TV) - Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. once said, "Life's most persistent and urgent question is: 'What are you doing for others?'"

Many people around the Mid-South will honor Dr. King's legacy on Monday by serving others and their communities.

We are compiling a list of "Day of Service" events happening around the Mid-South. Refer to the list below to see if there are any events you are able to participate in on Monday. If you are hosting your own "Day of Service" event you would like others to know about, click here to send an e-mail with the Who, What, When, Where.

Memphis

Who: FedEx volunteers

What: FedEx volunteers will spend the day beautifying Memphis by engaging in community service projects at Memphis Academy of Health Sciences, Arkwings, and The Arc Mid-South.

When: 9:30 a.m. - 1 p.m., Monday, January 20, 2014

Where: Memphis Academy of Health Sciences (MHAS), 3925 Chelsea Extended, Memphis, TN

Who: Local blood centers

What: Anyone who donates a pint of blood at a local blood center will receive four free admission passes to the National Civil Rights Museum.

Who: Rhodes College students

What: Students will volunteer at local community sites to commemorate the life of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. through service.

Who: LifeLine to Success, Inc.

What: The group will focus on empowering youth to begin taking ownership of their futures by taking ownership of their neighborhood and by taking pride in their community through schools.
