Luling man who used bath salts convicted of rape, burglary

LULING, LA - A Luling man who admitted to being high on bath salts at the time was convicted Thursday of raping a woman after forcing his way into her home, criminal prosecutors with the Louisiana Attorney General's Office said.

After two hours of deliberation, a St. Charles Parish jury returned a guilty verdict against 39-year-old Ricky Bruce for aggravated rape and aggravated burglary.

In July 2011, Bruce forced his way into his ex-girlfriend's home, where he physically and verbally assaulted her and raped her several times. Bruce admitted to using bath salts several hours before breaking into the home. The victim was later able to escape the residence and notify authorities.

Sentencing is set for April 1 before 29th Judicial District Court Judge Emile R. St. Pierre. Bruce faces a mandatory sentence of life in prison without the benefit of probation, parole or suspension of sentence.

Though the full scope of the investigation is not clear, the information requests make evident at least some of the areas that Mueller and his team of prosecutors intend to look into and also reveal a strong interest in certain of Trump's actions as president.
