Police: North Lubbock suspect beat victims with gun

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -

Daniel Moreno, 33, has been charged with attempted capital murder and two counts of aggravated assault after police say he threatened and severely beat two female victims with a gun.

An officer was dispatched in response to reports of a man threatening residents with a gun in the 3300 block of Duke Street on Friday afternoon around 4:30 p.m.

Police say the officer was confronted by Moreno, who raised his gun and aimed at him. The officer shot the suspect.

Officers found two victims, Sarah Garcia and Cynthia Ramirez, who were initially believed to have been shot by the suspect.

Moreno, Garcia and Ramirez were transported to UMC, where it was discovered that the victims had not been shot by Moreno, but severely beaten with a gun.

Both victims have been released from the hospital.

Moreno is currently being held as a security patient at UMC.
