This week's Pay It Forward segment features a Lubbock woman who wants to help out a single mother.
We set up along 82nd Street just east of Milwaukee Avenue. Andrea Garza spotted our Pay It Forward sign within minutes.
Andrea pulled into the parking lot and knew exactly who she wanted to help out. Andrea chose Maria Morales as this week's recipient of $300.
Andrea explained that Maria was a close friend of hers - a young, single mother trying to make ends meet. Andrea felt led to help out because she knew what that experience was like herself. She described Maria as a well-deserving person who was always looking out for others ahead of her own interests.
So we made the short drive to Maria's workplace. Maria was at work, but came outside to meet us on her break. She had no idea what was happening until she saw our cameras alongside Andrea.
She came up to us in tears. She had seen Pay It Forward before. Andrea counted out $300 to Maria. Maria told us the gift would come in handy for her kids.
Be looking for our Pay It Forward sign soon. You could become the next South Plains resident who makes a difference in another person's life.
