LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -

A Lubbock man has been charged with assaulting a Lubbock Police officer Wednesday night.

Lubbock police were working on a special assignment in high crime areas around midnight when they stopped two suspects that were walking down the middle of the street near 62nd Street and Avenue L.

Police say they found a gun in the possession of James Norman, when Norman attacked one of the officers.

The assisting officer had to detain the second person before aiding the officer who was being assaulted.

Norman fled the scene but was later arrested.

The officer was treated at UMC for minor injuries and later released.

Norman is facing several charges including assault on a public servant and possession of a stolen gun.
