Denver City man killed in Monday afternoon wreck

DENVER CITY, TX (KCBD) -

A Denver City man was killed Monday afternoon on CR 330 and the SR 214 intersection around 2:16 p.m.

Authorities say a 2012 Dodge was towing a trailer with pipe traveling westbound on CR 330.

A 1985 Mack truck was towing a tanker filled with water traveling southbound on SH-214.

DPS investigators say the Dodge disregarded the stop sign at the intersection of CR 330 and SH-214 and proceeded through the intersection.

The Mack truck veered east to try to avoid a collision with the Dodge pickup and trailer. The Mack truck struck the Dodge pickup in the right back quarter panel with its front end.

The Mack truck came to rest in the upright position facing northbound in the ditch on the west side of SH-214 and north side of CR 330.

After the Mack truck struck the Dodge, the pickup was pushed south and struck a stop sign with its left back quarter panel.

The Dodge's pickup trailer load scattered onto the roadway and struck a fence on the west side of SH-214. The Dodge pickup came to rest in the upright position facing northbound.

The Mack truck veered west after the crash and entered a left side skid. The Mack truck rolled on SH-214 and came to rest in the upside down position facing southwest in the ditch on the west side of SH-214.

The water tanker rolled on SH-214 and came to rest passenger side down facing westbound on SH-214.

The Mack truck tractor and tanker trailer did not detach.

The passenger in the Mack truck, 55-year-old Jose Vasquez, Jr. of Denver City was killed at the scene.

The driver of the Mack truck was airlifted to UMC and is in stable condition.

The driver of the Dodge Ram pickup was not injured.

All occupants were wearing seatbelts.

DPS says an investigation is in progress.
