This week marks the one-year anniversary of news that threatened to cripple the Plainview economy.
In late January last year, Cargill Meat Solutions announced they were closing their plant, eliminating 2,200 jobs in a city of just over 20,000 people.
Over 10% of the population was put out of work, causing the unemployment rate to more than double. That was a huge blow to the economy and the morale of this hard working community.
A year later, the jobless rate is showing movement in a positive direction and folks who lost jobs are finding work there.
To our friends and viewers in Plainview, a word of encouragement that you are on the right track to bounce back from news you never expected.
We admire your West Texas spirit and hope that 2014 brings economic success and stability for years to come.
