Religious group suing LISD over Tattooed Jesus ad

Posted: Updated:
LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -

A religious group is suing the Lubbock Independent School District over an advertisement.

We first showed you the ad at the center of this suit back in October. The ad, featuring a tattooed Jesus, was shown on billboards all over Lubbock.

The group behind the ad, Little Pencil LLC, says it's meant to promote the Bible's teachings through contemporary marketing.

According to their suit, LISD would not show the ad on their jumbotron during high school football games. But they claim the district allowed other faith-based organizations to advertise.

LISD Superintendent Berhl Robertson, Jr. says they have not been served with the suit.

The district released this statement on Tuesday:

"Lubbock ISD has not received any official notification of a lawsuit, nor has the district been served. However, we understand a press release has been sent by the plaintiff's out-of-state attorneys to the local media. We cannot comment on potential pending litigation, but we would always prefer to spend tax dollars in classrooms rather than courtrooms."

The district provided this list of companies who advertise using their jumbotron:

  • Adobe Auto Sales
  • Reagor-Dykes Auto Group
  • Mathnasium
  • Fuddruckers
  • Interim HealthCare
  • Pick Up Pals
  • Benny Boyd
