There's a new name in the ring today in the run for Lubbock City Council.
Frank Gutierrez, a life-long resident of Lubbock, announced that he will seek the District 1 seat currently held by Victor Hernandez.
The election will be on May 10.
If elected, Gutierrez says he will focus on development and cooperation.
"I do know that there is a lot of promise. I refer to the corridor at Marsha Sharp Freeway and University. That is prime for economic development," Gutierrez said.
Gutierrez is the only candidate who's officially filed to run for the District 1 seat so far.
The last day to file is Feb. 28.
