Stenholm Sounds Off on Negative Ads

The handshakes and applause after the endorsement of the Texas State Association of Firefighters weren't enough to sweeten the taste of what's become a bitter campaign. "This campaign has reached a new low," said Stenholm.

Congressman Charlie Stenholm is disgusted with campaign ads he calls lies. "Keep on truckin' because folks that know me know that your not telling the truth Randy," he said. The Neugebauer campaign responded with a statement. "The ads are an accurate discussion of Congressman Stenholm's voting record, and we stand by them."

"As the race gets closer, they are turning to sort of these attack ads," said professor Susan Banducci of the Texas Tech Earl Survey Research Lab. She's spearheading a massive daily poll of Neugebauer versus Stenholm.

What are the results so far? Of 740 polled, those younger than 35, 46% favor Neugebauer compared to 20% for Stenholm. 65 and older? 41% for Neugebauer versus 45% for Stenholm.
