Victims beaten with baseball bat during Dairy Queen robbery

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -

Lubbock police are searching for a suspect wanted for aggravated robbery after an incident at Dairy Queen Saturday.

Police were called to 6925 University around 12:49 a.m. Saturday morning. Police say Jesse Rios was taking out trash when the suspect attacked him with a bat.

The suspect then went inside Dairy Queen through the back door and told a second employee, Mary Cazares, to give him the money from the safe. Cazares cooperated, but was still assaulted with the bat.

The suspect fled eastbound and both Rios and Cazares were transported to UMC.

The suspect is described as a Hispanic male, 5'8, 140 pounds, wearing all black with a tan mask.

Rios sustained life-threatening injuries and remains at UMC in critical but stable condition. Cazares was treated and released.

Homicide detectives are investigating.
