Two still critical after deadly crash outside Post

POST, TX (KCBD) -

Two bystanders remain in critical condition after a deadly crash outside of Post that killed one person and injured three others on Tuesday, including a sheriff's deputy.

The Garza County Sheriff's Office says they were all assisting the driver of an 18-wheeler who jackknifed on Highway 84 around 8:15 a.m. just four miles west of Post.

That's when deputies say a box truck lost control, skidded off the road and ended up right where the jackknifed truck was.

As they were helping the driver of that truck, another semi lost control and struck all four people.

Officials say icy road conditions are to blame.

We're told one bystander, Donald Medley, 46, of Snyder, with roots in Acuff, was killed instantly.

Dale Kocher, 50, of Abilene; Cecilio Gonzales, 44, of Fort Worth; and Kevin Trauger, 34, of Lubbock were all taken to UMC for treatment.

Trauger was out of the hospital on Wednesday.

Garza County Chief Deputy Charlie Evans, 52, remains in ICU. He has undergone surgery to repair damage to his colon and a neurologist is checking damage done to his back.

A fund has been established for Evans and his family. Just mention his name at any Wells Fargo location.
