Police: Lubbock teacher assaulted by student at Project Intercept

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -

A Lubbock teacher is recovering from injuries following an afternoon assault.

LISD police responded to the Project Intercept campus on East 24th Street near MLK around 2 p.m. Thursday afternoon.

According to LISD's police chief, a student at the school assaulted a teacher.

Chief Jody Scifres tells us the student was taken into custody. The teacher was taken to the hospital, treated and released.

No names have been released.

Representatives for LISD released this statement on Thursday:

This afternoon, a female student enrolled at Project Intercept, the district's alternative education campus, struck a teacher in the head with her hands. The teacher was transported to the hospital for evaluation and later released. The student was arrested by LISD police for assault on a public servant.
