I-40 back open after storm, crash made highway impassible

MARION, NC (FOX Carolina) -

McDowell County 911 dispatch supervisor Angie Wright said around two-dozen tractor-trailers and a few passenger cars were stuck on Interstate 40 near mile marker 75 Wednesday night.

DOT crews were working to free the vehicles and clear the road while fire, EMS and troopers went from vehicle to vehicle checking on drivers, Wright said.

Wright said no injuries had been reported.

Wright said the impasse was happening near the emergency shelter that had been set up in the Old Fort community, and crews were making arrangements to transport any drivers who wanted to leave the scene and seek shelter for the night.

NCDOT reported that the accident was cleared and the road re-opened by midnight.
