Slaton Independent School District had two reasons to celebrate Sunday. A ribbon cutting was held at the new Slaton ISD gym, but there was a very special guest on hand for that ribbon cutting.
Slaton ISD Superintendent Mike Harris was also honored. That's because Harris has just been named "Superintendent of the Year" by the Texas Association of School Boards.
Harris lead a district with 1,200 students. He is recognized for his innovation to create programs and provide multiple career options for students. Along with the new title, Harris receives a $5,000 award for professional development and a ring from Balfour.
