LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -

Police say a Lubbock police officer was attacked by a man and his dog on Wednesday.

Officer Garrett Winters responded to Nothin' Butt Smokes at 2267 34th Street to check a "suspicious subject" around 10:30 a.m.

Police say the subject, Larry Jordan, and his dog attacked the officer as soon as he approached to speak with them.

The officer had to fight off the dog while attempting to put Jordan under arrest. Other officers arrived and helped take Jordan into custody.

Jordan was taken to jail and the dog was taken by Animal Control. Jordan has been charged with Aggravated Assault on a Public Servant and Criminal Mischief.

The officer and the subject were both treated and released from UMC.
