NCAA announces rule change after Marcus Smart incident

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -

After the confrontation between Oklahoma State's Marcus Smart and a Red Raider fan, the NCAA has made a new rule change. Any player who goes into the stands to confront a fan will be ejected from the game.

The NCAA sent out this statement on Wednesday:

"The clear intent of Rule 10-1.3.h is to prevent players from leaving the playing court and becoming involved in verbal, physical or any other type of confrontation with fans, team followers mascots or band members. Accordingly, any time a player leaves the confines of the playing court, either on the endlines or the sidelines, and commits any of the unsporting acts described above, the officials should penalize the infraction per Rule 10-3.1.h."

Smart was given a technical for pushing a Red Raider fan in the stands, but he was not ejected from the game. The Big 12 suspended Smart three games for his actions.
