LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -

Strong winds and colder temps return to the region on Thursday.

It's not an arctic front, but highs will only make it to the 50s compared to near 80 on Wednesday and 70-plus temps last week.

Some blowing dust is possible in the morning and winds will gust from the north at 25-35 mph, possibly reaching 40 mph on the South Plains.

Winds will diminish Thursday night and temps will dip to the 20s. By Friday afternoon, southwest winds again, 15-25 and temps will be back in the 60s, maybe near 70 for Lubbock.

It looks mild for the weekend so far.

Thursday may also bring the first severe weather outbreak to the eastern US as this storm system brings us wind will bring severe weather to areas well to our east.
