October Recall Round-Up

This month's recall roundup starts in the bathroom. Go to the medicine cabinent and throw out the Vioxx. Merck is recalling the arthritis drug after studies showed an increased risk in heart attacks and strokes. If you take Vioxx, please consult your physican.

Children's Chairs

Now, moving to the children's room where a number of dangerous products could harm your children. Delta Enterprise Corp. is recalling director's chairs for children. The company has received six reports of the fabric seat coming off. In two of those reports, children suffered lacerations from the exposed metal seat support rod , with one child requiring stitches. The chairs were sold at stores nationwide from April 2004 through July for about $10. The chairs feature popular characters such as "The Wiggles," "Dora the Explorer", "Spongebob Squarepants," and "Disney Princess." The model numbers recalled are TC83536WG, TC83531DO, TC83533PS and TC83532SB. The numbers can be found on a label on the leg of the chair. Consumers are advised to stop using the chair immediately and contact Delta Enterprise Corp. to receive a free repair kit. The number is (877) 660-3777 or ( click here ).

Infant Shoes

Meanwhile, Reebok is recalling its Allen Iverson toddler shoes. A tag on the shoe can come off, posing a choking hazard. The Iverson/Answer shoes were sold in sizes two through ten for about $35. Recalled model numbers include the following: 99553, B99553, 99554, B99554, 105155, B105155, 105158, B105158, 108292, and B108292. Now, moving on to the baby's room. Natura Products Downey Inc. is recalling its Jaloma pacifiers. The pacifiers are banned under federal law because they failed safety tests and pose a choking hazard. The pacifers were sold at Mexican supermarkets and commerical retailers nationwide from March 204 though August for 35 cents to $1. The pacifiers measure three inches long and about 1 1/2 inches across the base. They are pink, blue, green or white plastic with a yellow nipple. The nipples are filled with a sugary substance. Baby Walkers

PlayKids USA is recalling its baby walkers. The walkers will fit through a standard doorway and are not designed to stop at the edge of a step. They come in a variety of colors but the sewn-in seat label reads PlayKids USA, Brooklyn, New York 11-229, made in Taiwan. Recalled model numbers include the following: PLK94STP, PLT95STP, PLK2000RC, PLK95, PLK94, PLK98STP, PLK2000 or PLK300.  Small independent speciality retailers nationwide sold the walkers from February 2003 through April 2004 for between $29 and $39. TV/VCR Combo

Let's continue to the family room where you store the television set. Sauder Woodworking is recalling its TV VCR carts because they can tip over and cause the television to fall. The recalled carts are white, light brown and light reddish brown. Affected model numbers are 33-55, 63-55, 77-55, 98-55 and 97-55. The last two models were sold exclusively at Target stores. The carts are white, light brown and light reddish brown. Consumers should stop using the carts immediately and contact Sauder Woodworking for a free retrofit kit. Desk Chair

Now to the office, where you might find a hazardous desk chair. Gruga USA recalling its executive chair model because the chair legs can break. Recalled models include 795-0115 with black leather and 795-0228 with black fabric. The chairs were sold at Staples stores nationwide from March to July of this year. Consumer s should contact Gruga USA to receive a free repair kit. Call (888) 833-4148.  


The hazardous home tour ends at the garage. Chrysler is recalling thousands of mini-vans because of malfunctioning air bags. An electrial problem could cause the drivers' side air bag to fail. Affected models include the 1998, 1999 and 2000 Dodge Caravans, Grand Caravan, Plymouth Voyager, Grand Voyager and Chrysler Town and Country. The dealer will contact you if your vehicle is recalled.
