Clowney eager to show NFL scouts how hard he plays

Posted: Updated:

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - Jadeveon Clowney insisted there is nothing wrong with his work ethic or his statistics from last season.

The highly-touted defensive end from South Carolina told reporters at the NFL scouting combine he gave 100 percent last season, but opponents tried to negate his speed by getting rid of the ball quicker.

The comments came three days after his college coach, Steve Spurrier, told NFL Network that Clowney was not the same kind of workout warrior as Marcus Lattimore. But on the field, Spurrier said, Clowney can crank his game into a higher gear like almost nobody else.

A year ago, Clowney was considered the front-runner to be the No. 1 pick in the 2014 NFL draft. Now he is trying to rebuild his reputation after a somewhat disappointing 2013 season.

With offenses becoming increasingly explosive, plugging the holes is more imperative than ever. It's no surprise Alabama and Florida top the list, but the rest of the rankings may surprise you.
